Area Volunteers At Work

In celebration of Make a Difference Day, the largest day of volunteerism in the US on October 24th, over 50 volunteers joined together at the Girl Scout Learning Center for a day of sewing and quilting to help others.  Members of the Piedmont Quilt Guild were joined by members of the Gate City Guild and Kernersville Guild as well as Girl Scouts.
Over 200 gift bags were made for the military and will be filled with gifts and sent overseas.  Over 50 hats were made for cancer patients and will be donated to hospitals in North Carolina.  Twenty-four disaster relief bags were filled with sewing supplies and fabric to help people in the US and worldwide.
Project Linus is a national program that helps children who are ill and in need.  Many of the members worked on creating 15 quilts to donate.  Other members worked on making over 60 neck coolers to send to military fighting in desert climates.
It is exciting to see what a difference we can all make.
The Piedmont Quilt Guild will host area guilds and the Scouts again next year on the fourth Saturday in October, which is October 23, 2010.
